IKO Cambridge Shingle Roof Replacement in Roswell, GA
Installed: IKO Cambridge architectural shingles
The problem
Two-story brick colonial, shingles somewhere between 10 and 20 years old by the homeowner's count, with a chimney. On the inspection the field shingles were faded and worn, and the places where the roof meets a wall had been sealed with caulk instead of flashed. One sidewall had a gap you could put a finger on.
What we did
Tear-off down to the deck, loose wood re-nailed. Self-adhering ice and water shield in the valleys, synthetic underlayment over everything else, IKO starter strip on the rakes and eaves, then 22 squares of IKO Cambridge architectural shingles with six nails each and IKO hip and ridge. The flashing was the real fix here. The scope called for re-flashing the sidewalls and the chimney with step and counter flashing as needed, so the joints don't depend on caulk. We added ridge ventilation and closed off the old vents per code, and put new plumbing boots on. Permit and inspections were on us.
The result
Finished photos are from August 6. Darker shingles front and back, and real flashing at the walls and the chimney where there used to be caulk.
