Roof Replacement After a Tree Fell on a House in Atlanta, GA
Installed: IKO Cambridge architectural shingles
The problem
A pine came down across the back of this brick house and broke through the roof edge. Branches were piled in the gutter, the fascia split and the decking under it cracked. The homeowner had also told us about a leak in a bedroom, and the shingles were 16 to 20 years old by their count.
What we did
The downed tree was cut up and hauled off first. We tore the shingles and underlayment off down to the deck, sistered three trusses the tree had cracked and replaced six sheets of plywood where it hit. We also replaced 40 feet of fascia, 40 feet of soffit, 53 feet of gutter with a downspout, and the fence it flattened. Then synthetic underlayment over the whole deck, IKO starter strip on the rakes and eaves, 19 squares of IKO Cambridge architectural shingles with six nails each and IKO hip and ridge caps. A ridge vent replaced the old vents, the plumbing boots are new and the sidewalls got step and counter flashing where they needed it. Permit and inspections were on us.
The result
Finished photos are from October 2. New shingles front and back on the same brick house, and the roof edge runs straight again where the tree came down.
